Expressing Our Gratitude By Giving Back

Sungano CD

In 2009, Rubatano Center classes joined with Mbira dzeMuninga to produce our Sungano CD. This recording was not just a musical experience, but an opportunity for people from opposite sides of the world to get to know and appreciate each other. Sungano is an ancient term for an agreement of unity.  It was used for people to do something together with one heart, no matter their tribe or distance from each other. All proceeds go the CD went to the Zimbabwean musicians and their families. To purchase your copy, please visit http://matanhoproject.org/shop/.

Marimbas for Zimbabwe

Rubatano Center student groups organized the annual fundraiser Marimba Cafe in March 2012. Performances by Chitatu, Mweya, Chenjera and Sarungano raised over $1000, donating the funds to Matanho Project to send marimbas to Zimbabwe. The marimba notes were made by the band Ruzivo and then hauled to Zimbabwe for their music tour. Many friends in Zimbabwe helped build the marimba frames and resonators. After a successful tour in Zimbabwe at the Harare Festival of the Arts, Ruzivo Marimba in association with Matanho Project donated the marimbas to the St. Giles School for the disabled in Harare. St. Giles has a vibrant music program and supports children with various physical disabilities.
