Open Workshops with Jennifer Kyker:
Singing in Shona

Monday, Nov 3rd, 7 - 9 pm
and Friday, Nov 6th, 3 – 5 pm

Class Fee $15 per person per class or $25 for both.

From beginning to advanced singers, this class is designed for those who have a desire to improve their singing.  This class in excellent for all ability levels and is designed to enhance participants’ skill in learning songs in other contexts.

Through learning a variety of Shona vocal genres such as Jiti, Mbira, Mbakumba, and Mhande, students will improve their ability to sing in Shona. 

Particpants will work on the pronounciation of basic written Shona by focusing on especially challenging lyrics from various songs. 

The structure of Shona call & response and mbira singing lines will be discussed. 

Students will also experiment with a vocal tone and timbre suited to Shona singing.
